Troy Davis, maybe innocent, gets 90 day stay of execution for new evidence.

Guy on death row based on witnesses, no material evidence. 20 years later, several witnesses have under oath recanted saying the prosecution coerced them. Also, a man legally swore that he heard a different man take credit for the killing and laugh that Troy was blamed. Google the name, and visit www.ncadp.org if you feel he deserves a retrial.

Part of the damage caused by cases of innocence is that the real killer remains free, and sometimes continues to commit new crimes. Another aspect, touched on by the article is the anguish of the victim's family and the family of the person condemned to death row. Death row inmates are being punished twice - life on death row (in this case 16 years) and then the execution. Innocence complicates a system already broken even further - no wonder public support is declining.
